DOE: Smart Grid is M2M Technology
Department of Energy officially acknowledges Smart Grid is Machine-to-Machine Technology and is conducting workshop on $38 Billion in stimulus money during M2M’s Connected World event
CAROL STREAM, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--It’s finally official: After years of M2M (machine-to-machine) companies walking the wilderness in search of mainstream validation, Brian J. Quirke, director of communications for the U.S. Dept. of Energy (DOE) in the Midwest, stated that the smart grid is actually an M2M initiative. Quirke will be conducting a special seminar entitled "How to Benefit from Stimulus Dollars" during M2M’s Connected World (June 9-12, Chicago, IL) on guiding technology companies to take advantage of $38 billion in stimulus money earmarked for DOE projects.
According to Quirke, “The smart grid is clearly an M2M initiative and the DOE will be working with many companies to make this happen. In the next 18 months, the U.S. Dept. of Energy will invest approximately $38 billion to protect the environment and build the American economy using energy efficiency, renewable energy, smart grid electricity, and clean fuels … while creating the jobs this country needs.” Quirke will be speaking at 2 p.m. on Wednesday June 10 during the event. He adds, “The Department has set these goals: Get good projects underway quickly … in a way that creates lasting value; deliver an unprecedented degree of transparency; make a significant down payment on the nation’s energy and environmental future.”
With representatives and speakers from some of the country’s largest companies, this year’s M2M Connected World (June 9-12, Chicago, IL) is validation that M2M has entered the mainstream and hundreds of business professionals want to talk about it. With M2M initiatives charted in fields ranging from managing fleets, to urban planning, to home healthcare, there are few industries that are not touched by these technologies today.
“If any company is playing in or around the M2M space and is interested in finding out how the stimulus money is going to become available, Connected World is the only place to be on June 10. The validation of M2M as a recognized initiative by the current administration is a huge boost for our space,” says Peggy Smedley, publisher and editorial director of M2M magazine.
Companies like Exelon, AGCO, RhiZone, Motorola, Verizon Wireless, SJE Rhombus, AT&T, MedApps, T-Mobile, Schlage, Cinterion Wireless Solutions, Hill-Rom, Zoombak, Tridium, Pacific Controls, Cooper Power Systems, Wavecom, and Alarm.com, will be in attendance to participate in and listen to three days of presentations on how companies are seeing definite return on investment from M2M technologies.
Collectively these companies make M2M Connected World the premier international gathering for M2M, smart services, wireless, telematics, and innovative communications companies, manufacturing and industrial adopters, thought leaders, technologists, and futurists.
